For this mission, the SLS rocket will fly without an upper stage. Instead it will fly with a "spacer" as a representation of an upper stage.
Artemis III will see 4 crew members launching to Low Earth Orbit aboard an SLS rocket. The commander is Randy Bresnik (NASA), the pilot is Luca Parmitano (ESA), and the two mission specialists are Andre Douglas (NASA) and Frank Rubio (NASA). The mission will include a rendezvous and docking with both commercial landers from Blue Origin and SpaceX, in-space tests of the docked vehicles, integrated checkouts of life support, communications, and propulsion systems, as well as tests of the new Extravehicular Activity (xEVA) suits.
